They are typically found singly or in pairs. Forages low in vegetation, while flicking its long tail constantly.
Their food is mainly insects and their larvae; also small spiders and small butterflies. The song is distinctive; a cascading series of twitters following a buzzing introductory note, from top of bush or tall reed.
